Projects A & B & C
PROJECT A: Artistic representation of text – Have students pick a fictional book they are reading in ELA (either as a class or independent reading). They should pick a line (or set of lines) from the book and create either a song (if they want to be a musician), a photo story (for photographers) or a short film (filmmakers) centered around the lines from the text. Films should be no longer than 3 minutes. The song, photostory or film should convey the meaning of and the emotion conveyed by the lines from the text. Be sure to include the written script for song or film.
MATERIALS: Camera (still and film), online access to music making programs (Jam Studio offers a free trial), Windows Movie Maker (or similar program), access to some great books used in 8th grade ELA.
PROJECT B: Documenting career choices – Students should create an informational video (photostory book or music video) to introduce 7th graders to Career Academies or career choice. All should highlight great work from their peers, interview peers and encourage 7th grade students to carefully reflect on their choices. This project should be used as an introduction to 7th graders as they may start thinking of a career path for 8th grade Careers Class.
MATERIALS: Camera (still and film), often the purchase of digital music, Windows Movie Maker (or similar program).
PROJECT C: Create a photo story. film, or musical piece based on a theme of your choosing. Please verify this theme with Mrs.Ehrlich.
