Welcome to 8th grade Home and Careers!
This course is based on a Career and Technical Education "Best Practices" program developed by Jessica Williams,Ph.D.
On this website you will find all the necessary information needed to complete the first portion of the course. When you click on your chosen career cluster you will find:
1) A list of words you must EXPLAIN in detail and write a sentence that somebody working in your cluster would say or use. This assignment is named the "Language of the Discipline".
2) Several non-fiction articles and Ted talks about issues in your chosen career field. You may choose these articles to make notes on for your project, or you may find other articles that pertain to your interests.
3) "Letter to the Teacher" assignment. This will be done as an in class writing assignment to select your career cluster. Check the "Rubric" page for guidance on this assignment.
4) Descriptions of projects in the various disciplines (career clusters). The project also requires reading three articles (of your choice) for background information and taking notes on the article. A reflection will also included with the project.
In this course, you move at your own pace - HOWEVER - it should be your goal to have completed ALL of the above assignments first. You will need to use class time as well as time outside of class to accomplish this.
For the remainder of the course, you will be designing your own project based on a real-world problem in your chosen discipline. Using what you have learned plus your own creativity, innovation, skills, and talents, you will create a unique product, idea or service to solve your chosen problem.
